The Mao Jacket The so called Mao Jacket was made popular by Sun Yatsen who is credited with modernising the Chinese male costume. It was later modified by Mao after 1949 and adopted as China's National dress. It was a symbol of proletarian unity in its simplicity, modernisation and decolorisation. Nowadays it has largely been abandoned by the younger generation. Party members and business men have adopted the black western business suit although Hu Jin Tao still wears a version of the Mao Suit for traditional celebrations.
This Mao jacket was made from carry bags that have the "recycled" look and this symbolises the "down to earth" factor in times of poverty, struggle and revolution.
